TODD GOLDMAN

Todd Goldman, who signs his paintings and lithographs “todd,” has a passion in life: to make people laugh! Although he has no formal art training, at a very young age he entertained himself and others with exceptionally funny doodlings and adorable cartoons. While most students draw during class to solely cure boredom, Todd went one step further and combined his infectious humor and witty sayings with his characters to make distinctive pronouncements about life as he sees it.

Although he continued to paint and draw, Todd didn’t really take his art seriously enough to pursue it as a career. He decided to go the more traditional route and study business at the University of Florida. After 10 months he hated it and quit his job and borrowed some seed money from his family and just started painting and creating characters and concepts for the next six months.

In 1999 Todd combined his business education and his natural creativity to start a grassroots, one-man company with about 1,000 graphic images and a 30-page catalog, which he designed and created himself. His first venture was tee-shirts that bear his artwork and for which his artwork is now known all over the world. The positive word-of-mouth spread quickly; his cartoon characters struck a chord with kids and kids of all ages.

Todd knows that the people who love his characters won’t take literally the concept of throwing rocks at people, but will understand the spirit behind the attitude. “ I’m making fun of myself,” he explains, “and people have fun with my art.” “How I paint is how I speak.” He continues to live in Florida.
