Sue Adams is a Kansas City artist painting in various studios: Philomene Bennett's, Charles Stegner's and her own. She also studied with renowned landscape artists: Wolf Kahn & Stuart Shils.

“I love to paint peaceful surroundings. When a viewer takes a deeper breath standing in front of my work I've done my job. We all live at hyper-speed these days. I want to be able to focus on a sunset or a view of the street for longer than a drive by. Focus is an important part of the work. It is a luxury to be able to focus longer than an MTV minute.”

Sue paints landscapes because she grew up looking out of the window on long drives to Colorado and Southern Kansas. The drives seemed interminable then. Now she realizes how the view impacted her subconscious. When they drive to Colorado now, the flat plains and 'big sky' of Western Kansas fascinate her.
Specific areas of the country have given her inspiration for this series of paintings. They are western Kansas, Old Lyme in Connecticut, Captiva Island, Florida and Colorado, both the Rockies and the flat farmland in the west.

Using color is important and elemental. It gives the viewer the AHA! moment where they identify with the view. Many different places from North Carolina to North Dakota have been described to Sue by various viewers stating, I've been there before.
