Folk Art

See the gallery of Folk Art The Hilliard Gallery will take a closer look at folk art and its many expressions. The Gallery will display an impressive array of works from regional artists in its first ever, “Dimensions of Folk Art"; exhibition.

Folk art has been around since art was first created. But where is it in today’s world? This exhibit will explore the question of what is folk art in our society. Numerous definitions and facets currently exist in the art community. This display will present several unique interpretations from local artists. It will also give the viewer a chance to draw their own conclusions about folk art. The experience will add to the complexity of this somewhat raw, ever-changing art form. “Dimensions of Folk Art" will also give spectators a glimpse of what artists, in and around the Kansas City area, have to offer. The curator of “Folk Art Dimension; is Tate Owens, a local folk artist and art educator at Rockhurst High School in Kansas City, MO.
